CHEMISTRY ACTIVITIES 2025-2026
Mole Day Celebration 2025
The PG Department of Chemistry celebrated Mole Day on 24th October 2025 at 1:40 PM in the Smart Classroom. The event began with a welcome address by Assistant Professor Javad Ahammed C, followed by the presidential address of Mr. Sreejith M. P., Head of the Department. The programme was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr M Usman who emphasized the role of chemistry students in exposing misconceptions and chemical tricks used by so-called godmen, and highlighted the importance of sustainable development through chemistry.
Mr. Muneer P. P. delivered an insightful lecture on “The Mole – The Heartbeat of Chemistry”. The session also witnessed the inauguration of the Paper Presentation Series “CHEMSPARK”, followed by presentations by Nida Abdul Razak and Unnimaya M. of III Semester M.Sc. Chemistry. Ms. Muhsina T proposed the vote of thanks, marking the conclusion of a meaningful and inspiring celebration.
Foundations of Research
The PG Department of Chemistry organized an orientation session titled “Foundations of Research: How to Build a Project” on 17 November 2025 at 1:30 PM in the Conference Hall for both postgraduate and undergraduate students.
Mr. Muneer P. P., Assistant Professor, delivered the welcome address and emphasized the importance of research awareness among students.
Mr. Sreejith M. P., Head of the Department, served as the resource person and outlined the basics of scientific projects, key research steps, scientific articles, publications, and academic journals. The session provided clear guidance for students on initiating and developing research work. The programme concluded at 3:10 PM.
Chemspark Monthly Talk Series
The PG Department of Chemistry organized the CHEMSPARK Monthly Talk Series on 21-11-2025 at 1:30 PM in the Smart Classroom. The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Head of the Department, Mr. Sreejith M. P.
Mr. Javad Ahammad C delivered the keynote presentation on “Emerging Trends in Conducting Polymers.” This was followed by paper presentations from UG and PG students:

Academic Visit to IIT Delhi
The PG Department of Chemistry organized an academic visit to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on 03 November 2025. The visit was undertaken by a team consisting of nine postgraduate students and two faculty members. During the visit, the team toured the Central Research Facility at IIT Delhi, where they were exposed to a wide range of advanced instrumentation used in chemical research. The students had the opportunity to observe sophisticated analytical instruments such as Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy, Ultraviolet (UV) Spectroscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy, and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), among others.
Scientists and research scholars at the facility explained the working principles of these instruments and provided live demonstrations, helping students understand their practical applications in research. The interactive sessions allowed students to gain valuable insights into modern experimental techniques and research methodologies.
The visit was highly informative and proved to be a motivating experience for the students, enhancing their interest in advanced chemical research and instrumentation. Overall, the academic visit successfully bridged theoretical knowledge with practical exposure and was a valuable learning experience for all participants
Industrial Visit to CIPET Cochin
The Postgraduate Department of Chemistry organized an industrial visit to CIPET Cochin on 17 December 2025. The visit was attended by 42 students and 5 faculty members. The team departed from the college early in the morning and reached the institute at 9:30 a.m.
The group was formally welcomed by Mr. Jabir, technical officer, who delivered an informative presentation outlining the activities of CIPET. The session covered various academic and training programs offered by the institute, as well as its role in providing technical support and consultancy services to entrepreneurs and industries in the field of polymer science and plastics technology.
Following the presentation, the participants were taken on a guided tour of the facility. The visit provided first-hand exposure to different polymer processing and moulding techniques, along with an overview of advanced testing and quality control laboratories. The interaction enabled students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical industrial applications, making the experience highly informative and motivating.
After the academic session, the team visited Marine Drive Kochi, where they enjoyed a short boating experience. The group returned to the college in the evening.
Chemistry Association Inauguration
The PG Department of Chemistry organized the Association Inauguration on 05 February 2026. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Shifana Sherin, Association Secretary, and was presided over by Mr. Sreejith M P, Head of the Department of Chemistry. The Principal’s address was delivered by Dr. Usman M, followed by the formal inauguration by Mrs. Ummu Habeeba, Head and Assistant Professor, Government College, Malappuram.
Mr. Hanish Basil, Chairman of the Students’ Union, offered felicitations. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Nida Abdul Razak, Vice Chairperson, College Students’ Union. Subsequently, the Chief Guest delivered an academic session on “Nanotech: Think Small, Live Big,” followed by an interactive discussion. The Head of the Department presented a memento to the Chief Guest. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Muhammad Dhanish.
Send-off Party for Final Year B.Sc. Chemistry Students
The Chemistry Association organized a send-off party for the outgoing final year B.Sc. Chemistry students on 30-03-2026 at 12:00 PM in the Chemistry classroom. The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by the Association Secretary Ms Shifana from fourth semester BSc Chemistry (Honours). This was followed by speeches from the Head of the Department and faculty members, who inspired and motivated the students to pursue excellence in their academic and professional journeys.
The final year students expressed their gratitude and shared memorable experiences about their time in the institution, recalling moments with classmates and teachers. The event fostered a sense of nostalgia and strengthened the bond among students and faculty. The programme concluded with a lunch, after which the meeting was formally dismissed.
Participation in Seminar, Publications and Presentations
Mr. Sreejith M P, Head of the Department of Chemistry, inaugurated the Chemistry Association of Blossom College, Kondotty on 22 January 2026. On the occasion, he delivered a talk on the topic “From Alchemy to Quantum Dots”, highlighting the evolution and advancements in modern chemistry.
Mr. Sreejith M P, Mr. Muneer P P, and Mr. Javad Ahammed C published book chapters in the book titled “Innovative Approaches in Material Chemistry”, edited by Ms. Jasna V C, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Chemistry, Unity Women’s College, Manjeri.
