OVERVIEW

B.A. English Language and Literature is an undergraduate academic program that focuses on acquainting the students with basic knowledge, fluency, critical reasoning and thinking ability and to be a better citizens. It is a three-year degree course specifically for the overall development of the student into an independent individual. This programme  equip students with the best in use interpretations about the  theories as well as realms of world literature, especially English literature. Thereby students are future ready in a constantly evolving world of knowledge. More than a graduate degree students are acquainted with the their duties to become a better human being by keeping them in conversation with the moral and ethical value systems of knowledge which are taught them through their books.

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates who have passed (Eligible for Higher Studies) the HSE of the Kerala State Board of Higher Secondary Examination or any other examination recognised as equivalent thereto with Science, journalism, media studies, humanities etc as one of the subjects are eligible for admissions.

COURSE DETAILS 

  • Intake: 40 to 60
  • Duration: The duration of B,A, English Programme shall be six semesters distributed over a period of three academic years. The odd semesters (1, 3, 5) shall be from June to October and the even Semesters (2, 4, 6) shall be from November to March. Each semester shall have 90 working days inclusive of all examinations.
  • Courses: The UG programme shall include five types of courses, viz; Common Courses (Code A), Core courses (Code B), Complementary courses (Code C), Open Course (Code D) and Audit courses (Code E).

PROGRAM OUTCOME

  • Students will be able to understand the scope of their graduate course and how to rightly implement it in a rapidly evolving competitive world.
  • Students will realize how much of an exposure to the world events and knowledge systems do they get in being acquainted with the ability to handle a global language, the opportunities awaiting them both inside the country as well as outside.
  • The responsibility they feel as a world citizen and a better individual who is able to travel anywhere on the globe

Programme objective

  • The objective of the Department is to acquaint students with contemporary trends in English Language and Literature
  • To create a holistic, analytical and critical perspectives in the students and facilitate their active and positive participation in various events
  • The department  specializes as well as keeps on trying to improve upon its discourse in providing the best in a variety of literary traditions: literary theories, Indian writings, different aspects of English Language Teaching including LSRW skills and different genres of creative writing which are exercised as part of the syllabus
  • It has a special interest in showcasing the creative genius of  students in both writing and performing arts.
  • Conduction and coordination of  a plethora of activities like Literary Fest, Erudite Lecturers, Seminars, Workshops, Film Fest, Debates, Community Extension Programmes and Quizzes which are usually carried out every academic year.
